Sisters Dialogue is a grassroots collective of Muslim women based in Amiskwacîwâskahikan, Treaty 6 (Edmonton). We came together in February 2021 in response to a series of Islamophobic attacks, many of which targeted Black Muslim women in our city. Our founding purpose was to strengthen safety and well-being for Muslim women through culturally safer spaces and supports.
From the beginning, we embraced an approach that is intersectional, collaborative, and responsive to community needs. Over time, this vision has grown to include dedicated programming for Muslim youth, who now make up more than 40% of those accessing our mental health supports.
Guided by lived experience and community voices, our work is trauma-informed and community-led. We focus on care, trust, and cultural relevance, building strong relationships and adapting our programs as needs shift. At the heart of Sisters Dialogue is a commitment to listening, creating space, and ensuring Muslim women and youth are supported to thrive.
We provide culturally safer resources, tools for healing, and inclusive support tailored to the diverse needs of Muslim women and youth.
Our services and programs include:
At Sisters Dialogue, we acknowledge and recognize ourselves as Treaty people. We are deeply committed to advocating for justice and safety on traditional Treaty 6 territory and the North Saskatchewan River territory. This land has long been a gathering place for the Cree, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, Métis, and other Indigenous peoples. As Muslim women, we are inspired by our faith to uphold principles of justice, compassion, and solidarity. As Treaty people, we pledge to work in solidarity with First Nations and Métis communities towards an equitable and just future for all. Our dedication to these principles guides our actions and efforts as we strive to honor, learn from, and build relationships with the Indigenous peoples of this land.
